There are not a lot of bikes Doug didn't race on or classes he did not compete in during his career. Superbikes, GP500, Endurance and many more. I had my first contact with the Doug-Ducati combo when I was a wee little boy playing around with scale models. Tamiya Had this fantastic red Ducati I had never seen before, and I had to make this one! I just thought, "what police department would sponsor a race team?? That's awesome!!" Little did I know they were a brand of sunglasses at the times. Took me years to find out...many years. He joined team Police in 1991 and took the title, only to repeat it in 1992! Then, Ducati asked him if he could try to go for the title in AMA Superbikes in the United States. Try?? He just did it right away! That 851/888 (engine was already 888cc at the time) was also the first ever Ducati I saw as a kid on the roadside. I waited on my little moped till he started the beast, and I think the paint on my gas tank chattered from the thundering blast out of his carbon Termignoni's. I didn't understand the clunking noise from the open dry clutch at the time, but it added even more to the experience. The dude thundered off with a massive wheelie, leaving me behind as if I saw Godzilla waiting for a bus with Jordan's on its feet. Just blown away. And this is why this fantastic Doug Polen print is available for you!
